At the Clinical Infectious Diseases Center of Keio University Hospital, you will actively engage in education and mentorship as an attending physician (full-time staff), teaching medical students, junior residents, senior residents, and multidisciplinary healthcare professionals. In the educational environment of a university hospital, you will be expected to give back your accumulated clinical experience and contribute to the development of the next generation. We welcome individuals who are willing to serve as a core member of the team-based care model and to collaboratively build and support the clinical framework of the Clinical Infectious Diseases Center.

A clinical environment for practicing highly specialized medical care:

Our hospital receives a large number of consultations for refractory and severe cases, allowing you to fully demonstrate your clinical judgment and management skills as an infectious diseases specialist. In particular, there is a rich case mix of highly specialized conditions, including bloodstream infections, immunocompromised patients, multidrug-resistant organism infections, HIV, and tuberculosis. In addition, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in infection control and antimicrobial stewardship, leading comprehensive and wide-ranging practices in infectious diseases care.

Strong support system for physician-scientists pursuing research:

We place strong emphasis on the integration of clinical practice and research through the “bedside to bench, bench to bedside” approach, and actively conduct cutting-edge research in the field of infectious diseases. Research opportunities include studies using flow cytometry and genomic analyses, as well as clinical epidemiology and health economic evaluations utilizing claims data, electronic medical records, and multicenter databases. Through close collaboration with the Research Promotion Center and biostatistics teams, we provide thorough support for manuscript preparation, grant applications, and international presentations. Flexible work arrangements are also available for those aiming to obtain an MPH or PhD.

Career path design tailored to individual aspirations:

In collaboration with universities and medical institutions both in Japan and abroad, we offer flexible career pathways regardless of whether one’s primary focus is clinical practice, research, or education. Our center fully supports those seeking the “next step” in their career as infectious diseases specialists.

Expansion of infectious diseases research domestically and internationally, and career support:

In recent years, our department has launched new initiatives to conduct infectious diseases research not only within Japan but also in international field settings, supported by public funding. We believe this provides unique opportunities and career pathways not only for those aiming for an international career, but also for individuals who wish to engage in infectious diseases research overseas while continuing their careers in Japan. From the establishment of overseas field research projects to participation across multiple phases of research, we offer comprehensive, department-wide support to help individuals build careers aligned with their aspirations and engage in diverse infectious diseases research activities.
