In recent years, significant medical challenges have emerged, such as antimicrobial-resistant bacteria and COVID-19. The Clinical Infectious Diseases Center specializes in diagnosing and treating all types of infectious diseases. Since infectious diseases are caused by microorganisms, we address not only specific microorganisms but also a wide range, from viruses to parasites, covering infections in all organs.
At the Clinical Infectious Diseases Center of Keio University Hospital, we first determine whether a patient suspected of having an infectious disease truly has an infection or a non-infectious condition. If it is an infection, we identify the causative microorganism, decide which antimicrobial agent is most appropriate, and establish strategies to prevent the infection from spreading to others. Infectious diseases arise from interactions between humans and microorganisms and spread through interactions between people, requiring perspectives from microbiology, human health, and society for effective problem-solving.
In collaboration with the Department of Infection Control, the Clinical Infectious Diseases Center is dedicated to training specialists capable of both treating infectious diseases and implementing infection control measures. With approximately 1,300 consultations annually, we foster organ-transcending specialists who can respond to inquiries from all departments. We also cultivate a research mindset that allows specialists to solve clinical questions through basic, translational, or clinical research. Our goal is to develop individuals with broad perspectives who can contribute globally.
To achieve these objectives, we seek individuals who have already completed training in general internal medicine or pediatrics. We prefer candidates who have not only finished their initial training but also have several years of experience in internal medicine or pediatrics. Specific details can be discussed when you visit us for an observation.
