Research Overview
Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) Infection
Advances in antiviral therapy have made it possible for people living with HIV to achieve a life expectancy equivalent to those without the infection. Furthermore, it has been shown that when the viral load is controlled, the risk of transmitting the virus to others is eliminated. However, new cases of HIV infection continue to be reported in Japan, and various measures are still needed to bring the epidemic to an end. Additionally, with the aging of patients, non-AIDS-related complications have become a significant issue.
At our institution, we conduct clinical research on the relationship between HIV drug resistance and treatment, complications, and immune responses in HIV-infected individuals. We also participate in the Japanese Drug Resistance HIV-1 Surveillance Network, engaging in multi-institutional collaborative research.
